Hey everyone. There are some exciting changes are coming to the course!
You’re all here learning watch repair, and meanwhile I’ve been doing my own learning too. I’ve been figuring out the most effective ways to actually teach this stuff, and it turns out that teaching well is its own skill set. I’ve picked up a lot along the way, and it’s shaping how I think about everything in this course.
Because of that, I’m making some real improvements to the curriculum and I wanted to give you a heads-up on what to expect.
First, I’m changing the structure and the naming. Going forward, a “module” will be the main topic, with individual lessons listed underneath it. It’s a cleaner way to organize the material and makes the learning path a lot easier to follow.
My plan is to finish building out the initial 20 modules in this new format first. I don’t have an exact timeline, just know that I’ll be uploading each lesson as I complete it. That means you might see a new module appear with only one lesson inside. That’s not a mistake. It just means that lesson has been proofread and is ready to go. The rest of the module will follow.
The vast majority of the new content has been written. The difference now is that I’m having the content reviewed by peers of mine to check not only for accuracy but punctuation and spelling. So the material will be coming faster but I’m having to work around other people’s schedules. With all that said I think that this step is very important because I want to make sure that everything is as accurate as possible.
Once those 20 modules are done, I’ll go back through the existing lessons, rework the content, and most likely change the order they appear in. One thing I’m not 100% sure about yet: when I update a lesson you’ve already completed, I don’t know whether it’ll reset your progress on that lesson. I’m looking into it, but I’d rather tell you now than have it catch you off guard later.
My goal through all of this isn’t just to build the most complete watch repair course out there, ,it’s to build the one that’s the easiest to understand. There’s a real difference between those two things, and that difference is what’s driving every change I’m making.
That said, I want you to remember this. There’s only so much a course can do. I can give you clear explanations, logical structure, and all the detail you need but watch repair is a hands-on skill. At some point, the real learning happens at your bench. Getting information into your head is one thing. Getting it from your mind into your hands is another. That part is on you and honestly, that’s where the fun is.
Thanks for being part of this. I think you’re going to love where it ends up.
Alex
May 28, 2026,
Just saw this post. I signed up for the journeyman course on November 28, 2025 following completion of the Introduction to Watchmaking course at AWCI in October. O course, I was certain I was ready for more advanced training. Reality hit after a bent pivot, a jumbled hair spring or two, and the oiling disasters. I am still working through all of the fantastic videos you have made over the past few years. There is nothing like your videos to be had anywhere. Thanks to you, I feel like I will not be in over my head at the AWCI genearal sevicing course I am taking in July. The journeyman course looks fantastic and improving it will be absolutely wonderful. I look forward to the day when I feel that I am ready to start the course. In the meantime, thank you for all you have done already. What I have learned from you in the past 6 months is incredible!

Well you’ll be happy to know that I’m working on a lubrication module right now. As I said I’ve learned a lot about teaching and what goes into it so I’m bringing all the things that I’ve learned into the course as well.
Amazing! Your energy is a huge inspiration.
Thank you my friend. I had to work through some health issues over the last year but everything looks pretty good now and we’ll keep pushing forward.
Cool! I can’t wait to see the new stuff!
Thank you Eric. One of the things that I picked up is a model of the escapement, which I am going to be using to to explain how everything works.
I appreciate that my friend. Thank you.
Thanks for the update. Keep doing what you’re doing. Excellent course!
Thank you. We’re just trying to make it the best watchmaking course in the world that one can do while staying at home.
Very interesting, the lubrication module is a very good addition and has in depth concepts for what I ve seen.
I would suggest a module on calendar complications (day, date, moonphase, perpetual calendars, …) basically the main complications not treated in the chronograph module.
I have a module planned for automatic movements and that will be covered.
thank you, you’re doing an amazing job. I’m one year into this program and i’ve learned so much, managed to get to a point where i would never thought i would be able to get without attending a professional watchmaking school . This means that you’re building a course and offering an environment that can lead to solid basis and an in depth knowledge.
You know the learning never stops in this thing we call horology. I’m glad to hear you’re finding success and I think as you grow, things will continue to improve
Amazing news Alex. I’m looking forward to seeing the updated lessons. Even if changes reset the progress, it’ll be worth reading the material again. Thank you for your hard work.
The plan is for this course to be the next best thing aside from going to watchmaking school.
Thanks for the update, been watching ya since your first YouTube episodes. Love your episode on Radium watches. I’ll be studying your online course soon, just signed up. Thanks for your years of experience.
We’ve come a long way since then my friend and I definitely appreciate your support. It all started just to have some resources to answer questions being asked on forums over and over and then here we are today. I would have never envisioned any of this.
Thank you for heads up! It was very thoughtful of you to let us know of the changes. As new member, I really appreciate it.
Not a problem Robert. Welcome and if you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.
